Supportive Parenting For Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

SPACE was developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center. It aims to treat children and adolescents with anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder by helping parents to change how they respond to their child's anxiety.
Although children do not have to attend SPACE sessions - they are always welcome to join. Research is showing SPACE with parents is just as effective, or more, as the child themselves attending therapy - especially because sometimes children aren't confident in facing their fears and may struggle in therapy.
Some of the main anxiety problems treated with SPACE include:
-
Separation anxiety
-
Social anxiety
-
Generalized anxiety
-
Fears and phobias
-
Panic disorder and Agoraphobia
-
Selective mutism
-
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
SPACE has also been adapted to help treat children with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)/picky eating. Please reach out if your struggling to help your child with symptoms of ARFID.
SPACE works best when both parents can be present for sessions. Several times per year, SPACE groups are also offered. Check back for updates on the next SPACE group. Check out the SPACE Treatment website.
